“Lovely” French bistro fare is “la différence” at this “Third Ward gem” of “real integrity” that draws Francophiles for “romantic dinners for two” and “lunch with clients” with its “superb steak frites” and “terrific” seasonal menus; the “cute” dining room with area rugs is like being “in Paris” (except for “no attitude” from the staff) with “reasonable prices” completing a package that patrons call “wonderful”; N.B. owner Sanford D’Amato passed the reins to two former protégés post-Survey, which is not reflected in the scores.

On the March day that this modest but stylish Third Ward Bistro was officially signed over to its new owners, founder Sandy D'Amato described the reaction of new Co-Owner Chris Hatleli after the Attorney congratulated him. Hatleli "kind of flipped out. He let out a sound, then came over and hugged us" says D'Amato. For Hatleli and partner Nick Burki, this is the realization of a dream. Both have worked for the D'Amatos and at places like The Social and the Milwaukee Art Museum's Cafe Calatrava. They say maintaining Coquette's special charm is their goal- the staff and menu (Bacon-wrapped meatloaf to Coq au Vin) are the same. But tweaks, including added weekend hours, are in the works.
